What a Gate Officer Does and When Your Site Needs One
Access control is a discipline, not a gesture. Here is what a trained Gate Officer actually controls and the signs your facility has outgrown a badge reader.
A badge reader answers one question: does this credential open this door. It cannot tell you whether the person holding it should be here today, whether four other people walked in behind them, or whether the trailer leaving the yard is carrying what the paperwork says. Those are judgment questions, and they are the reason a Gate Officer exists.
The Actual Scope of the Post
A Gate Officer verifies identification and authorization against a current access list, logs vehicles and personnel in and out, checks load and delivery paperwork, prevents tailgating during shift change, directs traffic at the entrance, and maintains a written record of everything that crossed the property line. When something goes missing, that log is the first document anyone asks for.
Signs Your Facility Has Outgrown Automated Access
Consider a staffed gate when contractors and vendors arrive daily without advance notice, when trailers or equipment stage in an open yard, when shift change produces a crowd the reader cannot meter, when you have had an inventory discrepancy you could not explain, or when a terminated employee still has a working credential somewhere in the system.

The gate is the first person every driver, vendor, and visitor meets. That Officer sets the tone for the entire facility. Ours train in professional bearing and verbal de-escalation through the Officer Integration Program, because turning someone away without creating an incident is a skill.
Pair the Gate With Interior Coverage
A controlled entrance and an unwatched back fence is half a program. Most facilities do best with a stationed On-site Officer at the access point plus periodic Mobile Patrol of the perimeter and outbuildings during low-activity hours.
